Infant Feeding
As an SLP, my role in supporting families and their baby is to address functional feeding skills.
Oftentimes, a baby demonstrates the following:
Difficulty latching to breast or bottle
Difficulty with coordinating sucking, swallowing, and breathing
Clicking sounds while nursing
Difficulty gaining weight
Becomes tired/fatigued during feedings
Falls asleep while nursing without finishing their feed
Popping on/off nipple while feeding
Reflux
Spitting up often
Milk escaping from the sides of the mouth during feeds
Frequent crying/fussiness
Sounding congested after feeding
Moms will often display symptoms of baby having difficulty including:
- Nipple damage
- Clogged ducts
- Mastitis
- Forceful letdown
If your baby is experiencing these symptoms, please call/text to schedule an evaluation. I will conduct a thorough evaluation of your baby’s functional feeding-at breast or bottle, including assessment of oral motor skills and presence of tethered oral tissues (lip or tongue ties) that may be impacting overall feeding skills.
Milk & Honey Clinic
Milk & Honey Clinic:
This clinic is open for parents wondering how much breast milk the baby gets during a feed. Milk & Honey is a weigh-in clinic open every Wednesday. Moms can drop in anytime from 9:00-10:15 am to enjoy light refreshments, connect with other mommies who breastfeed, and get general questions answered by a Speech-Language Pathologist/Certified Lactation Counselor.
